In March of 1968, student activists demanded for social justice, greater educational opportunities and an end to the war in Vietnam by walking out of their schools as a sign of protest. During that time, LAUSD largely ignored Latin American history, and Hispanic students were forbidden from speaking Spanish and were steered toward vocational/trade careers instead of four year colleges.
