National Native American Heritage Month is celebrated in November to honor the culture, traditions, and achievements of Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and affiliated Island communities. US Congress chose the month of November because this is generally the end of the traditional harvest season and a time of thanksgiving and celebration for Native Americans.
